Tualatin Riverkeepers Summer Camp Intern; Summer 2014
In the Summer of 2014 I worked for a non-profit organization called the Tualatin Riverkeepers based in my hometown. Along with the Environmental Education Coordinator and another intern, we developed and taught elementary school students about native Oregon habitats. Our work was based in Dirksen Nature Park, a 48-acre nature park where Fanno Creek runs and home to a beautiful cedar grove. Each week a (mostly) new group of kids would come to experience the refreshing and lively outdoors by kayaking the Tualatin River, observing aquatic macro-organisms, fly fishing, and more. My time as a teacher for these kids was amazing and I learned a lot about facilitating, working in teams, and nature (species identification, mostly)! I discovered during this internship, looking toward the future, that I would like to work outdoors as much as possible and promote healthy lifestyles that respect our environment and is accessible to all.
